A podcast or generically netcast, is an episodic series of digital audio files which a user can download in order to listen to. Alternatively, the word "podcast" can refer to the individual component of such a series; or to an individual media file. (Source: Wikipedia)
If you asked me a year ago to listen to a podcast, I would have probably declined. I just never find them interesting before as my listening skills are pretty bad. I need to have my full attention if I wanted to listen to something informational or educational.
But since I'm trying to explore new things this year, I thought why not try out listening to some podcasts? Eventually, I grew a liking of it. I think they're a quick way to learn something new. If you are doing some mundane tasks and still want to be productive, you can just have one playing right off your phone.
I started checking out a variety of podcasts, but there were three that I still constantly listen to every now and then up to this date.
I love this podcast because they're short (about 10-15 minutes per episode) and it outlines the tips on the specific topic. It doesn't go stalling on the main points of the podcasts, and just outright tell you what you have to do in about 3-5 steps. It also focuses on subjects on building habits and confidence, on how to grow your business, and generally, on how to improve oneself. If you think you are part of the 1% of the population who wants to make the most out of your life, then I suggest you try listening to this podcast!
Few of my favorite episodes:
If you are familiar with Lavendaire on YouTube, then this would be like the audio version of her videos. The difference is that she usually invites someone to join her on the podcast. It's an interview set up and the guest shares his/her personal experiences of the subject. What I like about the podcast is being able to hear various opinions of the guest, it gives you different perspectives of a certain situation. At the end of the podcast, Aileen (the host) will recap the tips (usually 5 tips) on the topic of the episode. Another plus is that Aileen has such a soothing voice! I usually listen to her podcasts when I have time, cause I like to really listen to the conversations between her and the guest. And also taking down notes when she mentions the tips.
Few of my favorite episodes:
Gretchen Rubin, the author of the Happiness Project, together with her sister, Elizabeth Craft, discuss hacks on how to be happier. I especially love listening to this podcast whenever I'm driving, it feels like listening to two people conversing in the car with me. It's about 30-60minutes per episode, which is perfect for my drive to work/from work. They usually discuss several topics in one episode. They talk about what they have achieved and award themselves with gold stars. But knowing that life isn't perfect, they also talk about their not-so-good habits and give themselves a demerit. If you prefer a more conversational type of podcast, then this one would be for you.
