How to Unlazy

Hey everyone! Another year means another opportunity to set new resolutions and goals for the year. Another chance to work on the things we haven't done or completed in 2019. However, with so many opportunities lying ahead of us, it can be quite overwhelming on which one should we tackle first to achieve the goals and resolutions we have made at the beginning of the year. This feeling of being overwhelmed can be quite distressing and demotivating. I'm pretty sure there are already a few of you reading this, have already given up a few of your resolutions for the year. I'm writing this blog post to share with you three ideas to help get yourself out of the funk and get you motivated to keep up with your goals.

Shout out to Steffi who posed me this question and I thought it was a brilliant idea for a blog post!

3 TIPS ON HOW TO UNLAZY

  • Allow yourself to do what you want to do at a certain point of time
If you feel like catching up on some lost sleep and getting back the energy you lost over the past few days, then do it. Allow yourself to have as much rest as you need. But the moment you can feel a slight motivation to do certain tasks, do it immediately. Don't waste this opportunity as it can be a very fleeting feeling. One of the most difficult things to do is taking the first step. However, once you've taken that first step, it will continue on and on. You will catch yourself finishing more tasks than you would have intended to do. The sense of accomplishment will make you further inspired to carry on continuing the tasks in hand.

  • Be aware of how you spend your time
Ask yourself, how did I spend the last hour or my day? Have I done anything productive? If you're really driven and want to achieve your goals, you would probably end up feeling guilty if you realized you actually haven't done anything productive at all. Don't use your guilt as an excuse to not continue on, rather use it to motivate you to actually start doing things. Get yourself moving and do the necessary tasks to achieve your goals. Watch how much you actually spend wisely versus letting your laziness and procrastination lead you. And then, make some adjustments.

  • Keep the tasks visible
Make sure that the things you wanted to do more this year would be in plain sight. If you wanted to exercise more, keep the yoga mat and dumbells visible around the house. If you want to read more, place the book close to your bed or on your bedside table. If you want to do more of your art, have your artwork materials on top of your desk. Having these materials within sight inspires you to pick it up and actually using them. Like I mentioned in the earlier tip, these things should also make you feel guilty for not using them, so being able to see them will enable you to put these materials into use.
